Lowes Build and Grow projects are very popular, as are the Lowes Bird Feeder and Lowes Build and Grow Fire Truck projects. Some kits can be purchased online, which means you can work on projects at home if you don't want to go to the store to make them.
However, their website often does not have needlework kits in stock. That's why I have a list of 15 great wood projects to try!
Why should kids create projects like the Lowes Construction Kit?
Woodworking, even at an early stage, has many benefits for children. They will gain some useful skills, but more importantly, they will gain the confidence to apply them to other areas of their lives.
Check out some of the many benefits of wooden construction and craft kits for kids:
- Children learn competence and confidence by completing projects. They also practice respect for materials and safety.
- Use of tools, brushes, etc. improves hand-eye coordination, strength and fine motor skills.
- Doing activities with children like the Lowes Wood Project allows them to practice mathematical thinking (such as measurement and geometry) and engineering skills.
- Many children appreciate the aesthetics of wood (smell and taste) along with the friction of sanding something smooth.
And the building is limitless?
As with Lego, some children prefer to work alone rather than follow instructions. If your child is like this, consider buying a real tool kit and watch him use it with wood chips.
Montessori preschoolers are encouraged to learn real-life skills using wood and tools like this screwdriver.
The combination of ingredients can be very cheap. Ask your neighbors about the rest of their housing projects!
What wood projects are good for older kids?
The Kids Project at the Lowes store is aimed at preschool and elementary age children. So what about big kids and little kids? They still want to be creative and build with wood.
