Whether you're looking for a Christmas gift for those who appreciate handcrafted wooden treasures, or for handcrafted home and holiday decorations, the San Diego Fine Carpenters Association's Annual Holiday Gift Sale is the place to be. The sale will take place on November 18 and 19 in the carpentry workshop, which is part of the organization, on Miramar Street.

Throughout the year, members gather on Friday mornings to design, create and enhance the gifts they make to sell to the public, each made from a different type of wood.

“There are more than 1,500 gifts available this year, more than twice as many as last year,” said Gary Anderson, former president and co-founder of the sawmill that oversees the Christmas sale.

Many are one-of-a-kind items, including monster boxes designed for kids, as well as bowls, plates, cutting boards and other functional home items that have been lovingly polished and embellished.

Other gifts include a handmade snowman, a Christmas tree and ornaments, intricate and whimsical storage boxes, wooden tools, cutting and game boards, shaker trays, carved sculptures and wall art, ornaments and rattles. , as well as sculpted cars, toys and games, laser art, furniture and a wide range of home decor items.

Carpenter's Holiday Sale

The annual gift sale features handcrafted pieces by members of the San Diego Fine Woodworkers Association.

Everything for sale is provided by members of the lumber shop of the association. Proceeds from the sale support the day-to-day operations of the thrift store and cover materials for the organization's charitable activities throughout the year.

Each year, participants make about 3,000 toys and donate them to children's hospitals, orphanages and charities. Other community projects include the creation and installation of a small free library for the underprivileged and the creation of collapsible study tables for underprivileged students.

Each year at Design in Wood at the San Diego County Fair, exhibitors demonstrate how to make solid oak children's chairs. The organization then donated the 50 chairs they built to libraries, kindergartens, nurseries, hospitals, and other non-profit organizations that serve children.
