The Last of Us viewers are saying goodbye to the second episode for its Indonesian debut.
The HBO video game adaptation continued on Sunday, January 22, as Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Tess (Anna Torv) accompany teenage Ellie (Bella Ramsey) on a perilous mission through the apocalyptic wasteland.
So far, every episode has featured flashbacks that take place 20 years before the collapse of civilization caused by the spread of a brain-damaging fungus called Cordyceps.
The second episode began in Jakarta, Indonesia, where the outbreak was discovered by a mushroom research expert. Upon learning the details of the outbreak, he shockingly tells an Indonesian military officer that there is no vaccine and recommends bombing the entire city.
Indonesian viewers are praising the series for casting Indonesian actresses Kristin Hakam and Yayu AV in these roles. Unruh and for the correct use of the Indonesian language.
Many were thrilled to see these actors on screen and one viewer, @yogapunyatwiter, wrote: "As a big fan of The Last of Us , I'm very proud of Jakarta, Indonesia and the names of the various actors involved . Riga."
Entertainment website @Ramasscreen added, "So cool to have my hometown of Jakarta, Indonesia featured in episode 2 of tonight's The Last of Us . Also, Indonesian Kristin Hakim's performance as a legendary mycologist was amazing! Thank you for making Indo proud of Christine! Congratulations!
Meanwhile, @stereopic wrote, "As an Indonesian, I applaud HBO for casting real Indian actors for the second episode of The Last of Us . The subtitles in the language were also excellent.
"A lot of times when a show or movie is set in Jakarta, Indonesia, they hired Pinoy or Thai actors to play Indo characters. But HBO fame."
The casting director for The Last of Us is Victoria Thomas. The series was developed by Chernobyl 's Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, who also developed the video game the series is based on.
The second episode is available to watch on Sky Atlantic and NOW in the UK, the third after next Sunday (February 5).
