Castleton, VT. (WCAX) - Classes resumed Tuesday at Fairmont State University, Castleton, despite an ongoing search for a shooter near campus.
Honore Fleming, 77, of Castleton, was shot and killed last Thursday while walking on train tracks near campus. Fleming was a former dean of the college.
The school canceled classes on Monday after students returned from study break. But on Tuesday, classes resumed, although we learned that some students will be leaving school until the murder mystery is solved.
Security has been beefed up in the campus.
Investigators said Monday they have received more than 200 tips from the public, but have not yet named a suspect or announced an arrest.
Over the weekend, police revised the description of the person of interest in the case. They said witnesses on the train tracks described the man as having short red hair, not dark hair, as reported last week. He is approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, and was wearing a dark gray shirt and a black backpack. Anyone who sees the man is asked to contact state police.
Fleming was wearing a white and blue striped shirt, black pants and black sneakers, police said. They say he entered the tracks from the pavilion area of Fairmont State University's Castleton campus and was walking south toward Poultney. Anyone who sees Fleming on the street is asked to contact state police.
Investigators are still asking area residents to check security cameras for this person of interest.
Anyone with information is asked to call State Police in Rutland at 802-773-9101 or submit an anonymous tip online.
Police say the man involved in the shooting is believed to be armed and dangerous.
