"It's great for small artisans and entrepreneurs. It's important to have a place to share their work with people," says the retiring owner of Shenanigan.
The popular pop-up Christmas shop returned to Orillia Square Shopping Center on Friday morning.
For the sixth year in a row, Shenanigan Gifts & Crafts will have nearly 30 local artisans selling handmade items this holiday season.
"We have all kinds of Christmas decorations," said store owner Judy Dewsbury. "Almost everything is handmade by local artisans."
Sewing, jewelry, woodwork and unique gifts are available at the nearby No Frills store.
"Many of the artisans who make the products do not have enough time to go to the fair themselves," explained Dewsberry. "Then bring them to me and I will sell them. "They make money without attending craft shows, which can be expensive."
After her husband died last summer, Dewsbury decided this would be her last year as a pop-up shop owner.
“As you get older, there are more of them,” he explained. "Now there is a lot to prepare and do yourself."
Dewsbury, 65, expects the scams to continue.
"I hope someone decides to do it," he said. "I have someone who is interested, but it hasn't happened yet."
Dewsbury says the store has created a legacy he wants to continue in Orillia.
"I have wonderful customers who come in every year," he said. "It's great for small artisans and entrepreneurs. It's important for them to have a place to share their work with people."
Dewsbury says it's a "fun place" to buy Shenanigans. "This store helps to create a Christmas atmosphere for customers," he said.
“I would say 60 percent of our inventory is Christmas decorations,” he said. "The other 40 percent are gift ideas."
To celebrate last year's Dewsbury, Shenanigans will hold a drawing tomorrow of various items available in store.
"My suppliers are very generous," said Dewsbury. You all gave me something to play with tomorrow…
Shenanigan's Restaurant is open Wednesday through Sunday through December 20, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
