Maryland Shop Turns Wood Into Furniture Creations

Havery de Grace, Maryland. The wood panels from Tom Dino's workshop are intricate, intricate, chiseled and twisted - a warm look that only Mother Nature loves. Or Deno, who makes bespoke furniture with overturned pieces thrown in the sawmills. From these orphan surfaces emerge counters and tables, shelves and headboards, each a fun creation hand-forged by Dino in Havre-de-Grâce.

"All the wood is beautiful," says Dino, who co-owns the TDeez Badass Creations furniture store with his wife Heather, which they opened in 2020 after losing both jobs.

"We went from $ 240,000 a year to zero in less than a month," said Heather Dino. "I thought, what can we do?"

She was battling COVID the moment she finally ventured into their home in Aberdeen and got an answer. Her husband, a former carpenter, took apart all the furniture and filled the living room with wooden planks and a handwritten sign that read "Welcome to our showroom".

Two years later, Denos launches countertops, railings, entry doors and gastronomy panels for people who love the natural luster and look of wood. They made "river tables" where the cracks in the boards were filled with epoxy and pigments to make them look like water. For the client, they made a case for the stereo console from a maple rail, which appeared to be covered with a speaker system. Like most bespoke furniture, the armoire sits on an antique metal pedestal, much of which has been salvaged from old sewing tables, storage carts, or other vintage picture frames found at flea markets, garbage cans, and even garbage cans.

For one customer, Tom Dino took a 1930s washing machine, a copper tub with legs, and covered it with a piece of white oak to make a gas fireplace.

"Some people say our seminar is like [TV show] Sanford and Son," said Heather Dino. "Our motto is 'Renew, reuse, reuse'." "

Some customers do it themselves and only buy materials. If they make a mistake, the dinosaurs will free them.

The story continues

Wholesalers supply wooden bridges, many of which are made from trees that have been felled by aging or storms (some boards show signs of lightning burns). To date, 28 types of wood have been used by dinosaurs, including walnut, oak, elm, sycamore, sassafras and teak. Furniture prices range from $ 400 for a coffee table to $ 12,000 for a 13-foot conference table.

"Everyone wants something unique so that they can be said to have something that no one else has," said Tom Dino.

Favorites: meat dishes, appetizer plates where Deno keeps his favorite memories, from fishing rods to matchbox toys to Star Wars doodles.

“A deceased woman's daughters couldn't afford to scatter her ashes over the sea as they pleased, so we kept the ashes in six charcoal bowls filled with epoxy, which made Tom look like sea waves. Beach "- Heather Dino. Said..." The girls were so happy they cried. "
