ROXANA - Philips celebrated April 66 as "Good Energy Month" with employee participation in company-sponsored service projects.
Three service projects were implemented at the Wood River Refinery during the month.
On April 4, 17 employees, including members of the refinery's environmental team, gave up 68 hours to support the Edwardsville Children's Museum.
"This is the third year we've supported the site and it's great to see the native trees starting to grow," said Melissa Erker, director of government and community relations.
In addition to its volunteer support, Phillips 66 sponsors the Children's Museum's interactive STEM Forest exhibit and has awarded a $40,000 grant in 2022 to support the Citizen Science program and the new Pollinator Garden project.
On April 20, 16 employees spent 108 hours supporting HeartLands Conservancy. During a full day of service at Raindrop's Journey Exploration Garden in Swansea's Clinton Hills Park, volunteers planted 1,300 native plants, mulched viewing areas, installed treehouses and interpretive signs, and helped clear more than 500 square meters of the garden. . bed.
The refinery chose the HeartLands Conservancy for one of its service projects, as Phillips 66 donated $100,000 in 2022 to support the new "Journey of the Raindrop" exhibit.
"We think it's also important to invest capital in local organizations that have received financial donations," Erker said. The Raindrop Journey exhibit shows the cycle of rainwater in watersheds.
On April 27, 12 employees gave 48 hours to support the Alton Boys & Girls Club. During the morning service, volunteers helped paint the teenager's room, repair potholes in the parking lot, and finish yard work.
“The Boys & Girls Club of Alton was a natural fit for the Good Energy Project after working with them on a new scholarship program in April,” said Erker.
In January, Phillips 66 launched a new scholarship program offering 66 scholarships to Boys & Girls Club members at 66 Phillips locations. Wood River Refinery was able to work with the Alton and Bethalto clubs on the new program.
In recognition of the efforts of volunteers, Phillips 66 compensates organizations based on employee volunteer hours. According to Erker, the April projects will return more than $5,000 to the three organizations.
"We encourage our employees to volunteer year-round," Erker said. “As we highlight our projects in April, it's nice to note that we hosted a service project with Hope Community Center in February and have several more planned for the rest of the year, including support for Lewis and Clark Education Day. State Historic Site and our annual boy-girl STEM camp. Boy Scouts of Southern Illinois. The direct action of our volunteerism truly informs our purpose as a company to revitalize and improve lives."
In 2022, the volunteer efforts of Phillips 66 Wood River Refinery employees returned more than $150,000 in volunteer grants to local organizations through organized service projects and individual volunteer work.
