Genesis: Pathways To Success Collaborates With Iron Timbers To Host DIY Woodworking Camp

JUNE 7 - RIPLEY COUNTY - Genesis: Pathways to Success started Summer Summer Program (Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art and Math) with Iron Timbers at Osgood.

A total of 10 students from Southeast Indiana were introduced to the art of woodworking at the DIY Woodworking Camp on June 1st and 2nd.

Students had the opportunity to work with Iron Timbers staff to make their own sausage board or cutting board and create their own labels. Students completed a full course from sanding to resin application to learn the fundamentals of woodworking and understand how to create a finished product.

Students learned woodworking safety, proper use of equipment, importance of wood, and how to use mathematical concepts including angles and measurements to ensure accuracy. In addition, students were able to learn about metalworking and how it can be used in different areas of woodworking, such as woodworking. engraving your name on a CNC machine.

Camp participant Gracine Bushhorne, a 7th grader from Milan, said, “My favorite part of DIY woodworking camp was watching the sausage or cutting board being assembled and being able to customize the metal frame to your liking.

The projects prepared by the students were taken home.

In addition to introducing various STEAM concepts, the camp also taught interpersonal skills. These include, but are not limited to, creativity, problem solving, time management, and adaptability. These skills, along with many others, will help students succeed in their future endeavors.
