The project represents a step forward in the development of public transport in and around DKI Jakarta, which will reduce traffic congestion and strengthen inter-regional connectivity in and around Jakarta. The project will be completed with the support of an international partner, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which has demonstrated its commitment to the development of Indonesia's infrastructure.
The East-West MRT Corridor will be built in two phases, Phase 1, Phase 1 is a 39.3km line connecting Kembangan and Medan Satria. Phase 2, Phase 2 will run 50.4 km from Balraja-Kembangan to Medan Satria-Sikaranga.

Also, the signing of Phase 1, Phase 1 Negotiation Protocol between JICA, Ministry of Transport, National Development Planning Agency (Bappnas), DKI Jakarta Administration and MRT Jakarta in November 2023 was a solid step towards the implementation of the project. . .
With strong financial support of 3 billion dollars from Jakarta, the project is expected to make a significant contribution to improving the quality of life and mobility of people living in Jakarta and surrounding areas.
This commitment to cooperation was also demonstrated on December 16, 2023, when President Joko Widodo and Japanese Prime Minister Fumino Kishida signed a commitment to build Jakarta's west-east MRT corridor.
To continue the coordination meeting, Coordinating Minister Aylang will issue the Coordinating Minister's Order on the Operation of the East-West MRT Corridor as a basis for negotiations and the signing of loans in March.

Airlanga emphasized the importance of the project as part of efforts to renew and improve the capital's public transport system.
Transport Minister Budi Kariya Sumadi, who attended the meeting, spoke in favor of the overall implementation of the MRT East-West Corridor and shared Airlanga's views.
The agency agreed to involve the Ministry of Transportation as the project implementing agency, DKI Jakarta Administration as the implementing agency and PT MRT Jakarta as the sub-implementing agency. In terms of financing, it was agreed that 49% grants and 51% loans would be used.
