The JAT Pintharu Abhiman workshop series has had a significant impact in encouraging wood craftsmen across the island. JAT Holdings PLC, a leader in the wood veneer market in Sri Lanka, has partnered with the National Industrial Training and Education Authority (NAITA) to launch the “JAT Pintharu Abhiman” programme. The main objective of this program is to improve the knowledge, skills and technical know-how of the country's wood craftsmen and aim to improve the wood veneer and paint industry as a community development initiative.
The JAT Pintharoo Shilpee Abhiman program aims to provide professional recognition, financial stability and vocational training to local painters and carpenters. In the year Launched in 2021, the program aims to pave the way for participants to obtain an internationally recognized national professional qualification (NVQ certificate) through NAITA.
This initiative aims to raise the standards of the local paint industry through continuous collaboration, integration of new international technologies, painting techniques and hands-on experience. The main objective is to strengthen the professional attractiveness of the paint industry and contribute to increasing job opportunities in the country.
This year, JAT, in collaboration with media network MBC, trained around 800 painters in seven sessions between October and December under the JAT Pintaru Abhiman programme. As part of his ongoing efforts, Jett is planning several more workshops on the island and by the end of this workshop series, more than 1,000 artists will benefit from the already successful initiative. The cooperation with the MTV MBC media network significantly increased media coverage and publicity, and the participation rate of artists from different regions was high. Additionally, over 300 participants received internationally recognized NVQ certificates.
Traditionally, obtaining an NVQ qualification is a long, multi-step process that costs candidates a lot of time, money and energy. But the collaboration between JET and Naita simplifies the qualification process, allowing painters to become certified in just three steps after successfully completing a three-day hands-on assessment.
